Chandigarh city travel
Designed by the French architect Le Corbusier in 1953, Chandigarh is a beautiful city that acts as a capital to both Punjab as well as Haryana state. Chandigarh derives its name from the Goddess of power- Sri Chandika and represents modern and progressive India. With it’s neatly laid out residential blocks, grid planned roads and numerous big gardens Chandigarh, one of most well designed cities has become a rare epitome of modernization co-existing with nature’s preservation.

With numerous picturesque spots, Chandigarh is a hot tourist destination of India. For instance people from all corners of the world visit Chandigarh to take a look at the unique Nek Chand Fantasy Rock Garden that’s based on the designed by the former road inspector, Nek Chand who without any formal training created an oasis filled with art objects. The Rock Garden is a major tourist attraction and the artwork done here is made from recycled materials such as broken pottery, pebbles, boulders, coal and broken glass. All these items have been used to create a world of palaces, soldiers, monkeys, village life, women and temples in the Nek Chand Fantasy Rock Garden. The garden also boasts of beautiful waterfalls, pools and an open air theater. Similarly, the Pinjore Gardens, also known as Yadavindra Gardens are a great hit among the tourists. The Pinjore Garden is a Mughal garden with seven levels. It is a popular picnic sport with green lawns, a Japanese garden and a mini zoo.

Not to forget are Chandigarh’s other great pulls including the salubrious Rose Garden, Shanti Kunj the Lesiure Valley, the Lake, the tree lined avenues or the open Piazza, all of which provide an invigorating experience. The City Centre or ‘Seventeen’ presents an organized arrangement of square building blocks and open spaces. The Piazza livens up in the afternoon when all the office goers try to recharge themselves. In the evening, shoppers and tourists enjoy popcorns and ice cream while sitting on the steps of the “dove of peace” sput where water beautifully cascades down from one level to another in geometrically shaped tanks, amidst wonderful play of colorful lights.

The Leisure Valley, the Fitness Trails, the Botanical and terraced gardens, the hibiscus and topiary parks and other gardens along the green belt that pass through the city offer a quiet retreat at all hours of the day, moving life’s subtler impulses, enhancing spiritual experiences and contributing to the tranquility of the place. Even a drive through the city is a lifetime experience with its pleasant sites, green rolling belts, beautifully designed facades of residential areas, the big landscape roundabouts with their own structural elements and floral layouts and bewitching view of the Shivalik Hill range.

Chandigarh is also known for its Sukhna Lake which is an artificial lake created by building an artificial dam on a seasonal stream and is an all-time halting place for various migratory birds flying from Central Asia to India and vice-versa. The Temple of Goddess Chandi that lies on the northern border of the city has a great historical significance and is a sacred place for the Hindus. It is a big tourist attraction including the Government Museum and Art Gallery, Museum of Evolution of Life and the International Dolls Museum.

If you have made up your mind to visit this mesmerizing city, quickly decide your means of getting there. Chandigarh can be reached through rail, road or air.
